Configure GPRS, 3G and MMS Settings on Samsung Galaxy Y

In this tutorial, I will share how to configure GPRS, 3G and MMS manually on your Samsung Galaxy Y.

There are various ways to activate internet service on your phone. Some network provider offers an over-the-air download of APN settings. Some offer SMS-based configuration. But in this tutorial, I will illustrate how to configure APN (Access Point Name) manually.

You can follow the steps below if you are having trouble downloading the configuration to your phone.

If you can’t connect to internet, make sure that the Network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode) or WCDMA only under Mobile networks → Network mode. You can change it back to GSM only if you want to make sure that apps won’t connect to data service automatically and incur charges.

Another thing that you need to enable is Use Packet Data option. You can see it under Mobile network settings as well. Basically, you just need to put a check mark on it to enable.

If 3G icon is not appearing in the notification bar of your phone, try to reboot your device.

Download GPRS, 3G Settings via SMS

You may also get the correct GPRS or 3G settings for your device by texting SET to 211. You will receive a 3 part text message which contains the settings. Save it first then enter 1234 when you are prompted to key in a pass code or PIN. After that, setting will be automatically saved in the APNs list.

Happy Browsing!
