Skype Metro UI version is one of the free applications which comes pre-installed in Windows 8. The only thing I hate about it is I can’t open or minimize it on desktop. It takes the whole screen of my computer and it refrains me from doing other stuff. Luckily, I found a way to get Skype Desktop version.
Install Skype Desktop Version on Windows 8
Here’s the step-by-step guide on how to install Skype for Desktop on Windows 8.
Step 1: Go to this link.
Step 2: Click “Learn about Skype for Windows Desktop”.
Step 3: Click “Get Skype for Windows desktop”
Note: You can download Skype for Desktop installer directly from this link.
Step 4: Locate SkypeSetup.exe in your hard drive or Download folder. Right-click it then select ‘Run as Administrator’
Click Yes if you get User Account Control warning message.
Click ‘Run Anyway’ if you get Windows Smart Screen error.
Step 5: Select your preferred language then proceed with the installation.
Installation will take a few minutes.
The program will create shortcut icon on your desktop automatically. System will pin it to Metro UI as well. See screenshot below.
Click the Skype for desktop icon and the program will open on desktop.
Skype for Desktop Compatibility with Windows 8
You might ask if there will be a problem if you install Skype for Desktop on Windows 8. The answer is NO. Even though Windows 8 is not included in the compatible Operating Systems list on Skype for Desktop download page, it doesn’t mean that the program won’t run on 8. You can install it anytime without getting any error.
Skype for Desktop is compatible to both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.
