Additional Solution: Update .NET Framework

Disclaimer: This workaround seems to resolve the same problem I had a few days ago when I tried to upgrade Adobe Reader 9 to 11 on my Windows 7 Ultimate PC (64-bit). I do not guarantee that the steps below will surely fix the error 100% but feel free to follow it.

It’s easy to update .NET Framework in a Windows PC. You can do it via Windows Update.

Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update

Click Check for Updates. Download and Install all .NET Framework updates by group instead of all at once to prevent failed installations. For example, install all updates for .NET Framework 3.5 first before the next version. Always start with the oldest version.

Do not forget to check for updates again after installing all .NET Framework updates just to make sure that there’s nothing left.

Now, download Adobe Reader Installer at http://get.adobe.com/reader/

The website will automatically detect the version of Windows your computer is running on. If incorrect, click ‘Do you have a different language or operating system?’ then select the correct version of Windows, language and your preferred Adobe Reader version from the drop-down menus.

Click Download Now button.

Disable temporarily the antivirus or anti-spyware installed on your computer before running the installer.

Let the installer download the required files again until the installation is complete.

Do not forget to re-enable the antivirus afterwards.
