I didn’t know that Smart abolished Load Protect until such a frustrating experience recently.
It all started last Tuesday. It was 4:30 in the morning. Because my shift starts at 5:00 a.m., I decided to request an Uber.
I stood at the pickup location for a few minutes. I kept on trying to register the address, but nothing’s happening. I tried to reboot the device multiple times, turn the cellular access on/off, and whatever quick troubleshooting I came up with, but nothing really worked. Grrrr.
I tried visiting select sites too, but none was loaded successfully. 😭 Just what the hell is going on?
I checked my load afterward, then I found out that my data allowance was used up.
So, What Happened to the Regular Charging?
This baffled me. Why I can’t connect to the internet if I have enough load? I don’t mind paying 5 peso for 15 minutes though, and it should have kicked in automatically.
Since I only have 15 to 20 minutes left [afraid to be late], I hailed a taxi instead.
And, Here Comes The Frustration…
While on the road, I tried again to fix the issue. Usual troubleshooting.
When I tried to load Apple site, I was redirected to Safezone. It seemed Smart wants me to avail a data package, but I ignored it since I can’t decide that time.
Suddenly, I recalled the LOAD PROTECT thingy which is used to turn internet access on and off without data package.
I texted LOAD PROTECT OFF to 9999, and I received a reply right away.
JUST FOUND OUT THEY DISABLED LOAD PROTECT
It could have been better if Smart notified me right away via a pop-up notification or SMS that a data subscription is required. Imagine the hassle of trying to figure out what’s going on.
I can no longer rely on Load Protect. Moving forward, I have to subscribe to any data package first.
I learned the lesson, however I will stress that the ordeal is indeed frustrating.
Hope Smart can provide a real-time notification in whatever way possible so people who need internet connection asap will not be denied of service.
