File Manager in Asus ZenFone 3 Max

Asus ZenFone 3 Max: Making .BIN Playable

I recently downloaded videos on my Asus ZenFone 3 Max, however all of them were in an unknown format which is BIN whatever. I dunno what that is. I expected that the files are ready to be played, but they are not. The device can’t recognize them.

I tried opening it manually from a video player, but it doesn’t seem to work. I finally thought of digging inside the File Manager. See the featured image above.

I found the video files under the Downloads folder, double-tap on one of them, until the file is highlighted and the icons in the upper-right corner in the screenshot below showed up.

Double tap a file name to highlight it and to pull up other options

I pressed on the three dots lined up diagonally, then selected Rename.

Rename a file

I replaced .bin with .mov until I noticed that the thumbnail changed to a scene in the file after saving.

Replace bin with mov then save the change

When I tapped on the file name again, the device prompted me to either use the default app once or always, or to use another compatible application.

Open with Video Player

I selected the first option, and voila!, It played.

Please take note that this has been tested in Asus ZenFone 3 Max.
